About Breast Lipomas
A lipoma is a pocket of fat that’s encased by a fibrous band. They are usually found just below the skin.
Lipomas are benign (not cancerous) and do not increase your risk of getting cancer. They are quite common and harmless. Lipomas generally do not require treatment unless they cause pain or are in location that causes discomfort.

Being post-menopausal is the only known risk factor for developing a lipoma.
Symptoms of Breast Lipoma
Lipomas may or may not be felt. If you can feel one, it will be usually be soft and moveable. They are usually not tender.
Diagnosis and Treatment
Diagnosing Breast Lipoma
A lipoma will show on a mammogram as a translucent gray mass. A clear diagnosis can be made with breast ultrasound and sometimes a minimally invasive needle breast biopsy.
Treating this Condition
Lipomas do not need to be removed surgically.
